Nehemiah 1:1–11
Nehemiah wept, he fasted, and he prayed upon learning about the people’s condition in Jerusalem
This is where God often begins His work in us:
- God opens our eyes to see what is broken
- God opens our hearts to care about what He sees
- God bends our knees so that we will bring the burden to Him
As he prayed, he also examined his own heart
His burden for others brought him into the presence of God, and the presence of God brought him into repentance
What burdens your heart?
Do we see what God sees?
Does what burdens God burden us?
When God puts that burden on our hearts, do we take it to Him?
People around us need hope, truth, forgiveness, and salvation through Jesus Christ
Yet before we ask God to change them, we must allow God to change what is within us
So let us not merely see the need – let us carry the need to God
Let us not merely talk about the lost – let us pray for the lost
Let us not only ask God to use the church – let us be willing to say… Lord, begin with me
Because when God gives us His burden, He is preparing us for His mission
