dangerous trap

sis. ruby fernandez

main passage

james 5:1-6

scripture does not teach that possessing wealth is in itself a sin
obviously, not all wealthy people oppress others, and many christians in the world today possess great riches

but the bible does warn against the trap of desiring to become rich (1 Timothy 6:9–10) and of trusting in riches once you possess them (1 Timothy 6:17–19)

the bible says our earthly lives are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes (James 4:14) our earthly journey is exceedingly brief

perhaps the greatest lesson to learn is that when death comes knocking on our door there is only one thing that matters:
our relationship with Jesus Christ
What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? (Matthew 16:26; Mark 8:36)

wealth is a good tool, if we are careful to use it as stewards for the Lord
but it is a dangerous trap if we adopt a worldly perspective towards it

remember paul’s words in 1 Corinthians 4:2, It is required of stewards that one be found trustworthy
